> Chairman`s Message
I
congratulate you on joining the Punjab College of Women, By unifying
several colleges into a single whole, we have created unity in diversity.
I assure you that in opting for our academic institution, you have
made the wisest choice of your educational career as we are dedicated
not only to sharpening the intellectual caliber of our students
but also strengthening their moral Fibre. Our new educational complex
not only focuses (in the teaching of science but also lend greater
sanctity and relevance to the merged units. The change is expected
to generate a sense of healthy competition among the students who
will try to outshine one another in this really challenging environment,
Furthermore, a pooling together of intellectual resources will provide
incentives for scientific research which is our most pressing need,
Science and progress are inseparable one complements the other.
The future of mankind is, in fact, linked with the future of science.
Those who cold-shoulder it will remain behind; and those who embrace
it will guarantee their survival. The pattern of contrast is already
reflected in the life styles and social ambience of the developed
and the underdeveloped worlds. While the advanced nations are reaping
the perks of scientific research, the developing nations are still
living in primitive times, the graph of their prosperity dipping
day by day.
As a country, we are lagging far behind others in the field of scientific
research and technology. Hence, we should adopt a positive stance
and in this context, what could be a greater illustration of the
gesture than our attempt to bring all our colleges of Women under
the umbrella of Punjab College of Women, It is my honest conviction
that a step in the right direction prompted by a noble motive, gives
rise to a range of implications for the spread of scientific knowledge
in the country.
Scientific innovation, therefore, is coming to
us not as a threat bill as a promise, not as a punishment hut as
a gift. So science is a boom for humanity. For example, the thought
of engineering living organisms no longer conjures up sinister images.
What we see before our eyes are not hideous distortions but useful
products. We no longer feel dread but only elated expectations at
the great possibilities that lie in store for each us.
I earnestly hope that Punjab College of Women,
in its enlightened approach to scientific development, will prove
itself to be a precious landmark eliminating the irrational human
fears about scientific innovations, especially when they promote
human well-being and help in wiping out disease and squalor.
I sincerely pray that Punjab College of Women will be of immeasurable
help in shedding apprehensions and reservations that might block
our march to progress, and in restructuring the country on sound
and logical grounds, free from the canker of ignorance and prejudice.
